Rotaract Fund Raiser

Opening The Meeting

Today was Julia Parranto’s first meeting for her second term as president (I think we referred to her as our “encore president”). She had some fun music playing before the start of the meeting, encouraging us to get up and dance. Matthew Henry, Marilyn Lira, Kris Anderson and Ginny Cannon took her up on it! This year’s them is United for Good.  Marilyn Lira led us in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four-Way Test (she remembered we have Five-Ways).

Visiting Rotarians:

Marilyn Lira from Sebastopol.  She is also our assistant governor for one more year.

Ginny Cannon noted that Donna Koslowsky was here today and might be referred to as a visiting Rotarian.  Mike Moore said she needs to do the 12 steps of Rotary since she has been missing so many meetings due to her home remodeling.

“Badges? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges!”

Ah, yes you do. Casey D’Angelo got a new badge as a former president and Peter Holewinski got a new badge as president elect.  Cool!

Sunshine Report:

Everyone is groovy today.

Joke of the Week?

Not sure if this will be an ongoing feature of President Julia’s meetings, but Mike Moore was our joker for this week.  Needless to say, it was and attorney joke. “What do to call an attorney with an IQ below 100?  Answer:  A judge.

50/50 Raffle:

Ray Giampaoli notified that we had 12(!) marbles in the bag and the pot was $28.00.  Your bulletin editor as so flabbergasted on the 12 marbles that she missed who had the right ticket this week.  No matter, they did not win.

Calgary:

We had a few Rotarians that attended the convention wear their while hats today. President Julia thought the Polio Plus presentation was the best of the convention.  I thought Ann Gospe’s boyfriend, John Hewko, was quite entertaining.  He was accompanied by a Muppet named Johnny.

Giro Bello Update:

We are way behind in sponsorships this year.  Only $14,000 this year this far and we only have one week to go.  If you can squeeze and money out of anyone, please do!  We have about 454 riders thus far.  Remember, sponsors help us pay for all our projects.  We are also in need of more volunteers for SAG and other jobs. Robby Fouts said he would be a silver sponsor.  A couple more Rotarians said they would help.

Birthdays:

Keven Brown, Casey D’Angelo, Paul Hamilton, Peter Holewinski and Gary Nichols all have birthdays this month. They all get a gift card from Corrick’s…well maybe not Keven…

Happy Anniversary Ted!

Ted Wilmsen said he joined our club on July 1, 1975, so it is his 50 anniversary! In honor of the occasion, he is donating $2500 to Polio Plus.  Outstanding!

President Julia introduces us to her Encore Presidency:

President Julia plans to have music at the start of her meetings.  In fact, District 5130’s theme for the year is, “Rotary, the Music in our Hearts.”

The next Fifth Wednesday Social will be at Mark Burchill’s home.  Darts, Croquet and Bocce. Everyone is to bring something to drink and food to share. July 30, 4:00 – 7:00.

Membership:  we need to grow. President Julia has some ideas to shake things up.  Traverse City, MI has a population of 15,000 people and they have far more members than Santa Rosa. Bring someone to Rotary.  Bring them to socials. Bring them to our projects. As for retention, if they feel at home in our club, they will stay in our club.  President Julia wants to have more craft talks.  She had a copy of “The ABCs of Rotary.” Unfortunately, it is out of print. “Challenges are inevitable.”  but we get up.

She referred to the 1800 Peace Fellows and a book called “A String of Pearls” which is about some of their projects after being in the program.

Matthew Henry will be our lead for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library this year.

In conclusion, she wants us all to love Rotary more at the end of the year than we do now and be at the meetings every week.
