Rotaract Fund Raiser
If anyone would like to donate money to GRA (Global Rotaract Alumni Club) they can donate the money on the GOSC site and include a note that it is for GRA. This would help us tremendously to continue growing as a club and be able to conduct larger scale projects. Here is the donation link: Donate Now – Global Offsite Care

Opening The Meeting:

“I Gotta Feeling…” It’s Rotary Time!

President Julia rang in the festivities

President Julia rang in the festivities with a little Black Eyed Peas, giving us all hope that tonight would be a good night. Did it live up to the hype? Read on and decide for yourself.

Pledge & Thought of the Day

Ann Gospe kicked things off aiming to reflect on aging gracefully, but then pivoted hard to Polio Awareness (as one does). She told us about Paul Alexander, a man who lived inside an Iron Lung and still managed to become an attorney. Take that, Monday complaints.

Sunshine (Sorta)

Ginny reported sunny with a chance of awesome…but wait…

Ginny, Rotarian of the Month™, reported absolutely no clouds. Zero. Sunny with a chance of awesome. Unfortunately, John changed the weather by sharing that Jack Tolan was hospitalized. Fortunately, he’s home now. No visitors allowed, but good vibes are free to send.

Visiting Rotarians And Guests.

No visiting rotarians or guests.

Joke of the Week

Michael Moore brought the laughs with a tale of brake failure doubling as firefighting strategy. Moral of the story: If you can’t stop, just commit.

Opportunity Drawing: Not Rigged, Probably

Gary Nichols, a.k.a. “Rookie Without Glasses,” tried to MC the drawing but couldn’t see the ticket numbers. Andrea had to step in like a bingo hall hero. President Julia won, because of course she did. But she didn’t pull the blue marble, so she walked away with only victory and suspicion.

Announcements a Go-Go

  • Ann Gospe introduced the LIFE Ambassador Program via a video full of Rock-Paper-Scissors battles and life wisdom. The message was clear: Rotarians + hand games = changed lives.
  • There are thoughts to bring LIFE to SRJC and Roseland schools.
  • Peter Holinski says we should involve Interact Clubs.
  • Julia says someone should run the kids’ Christmas party. Seriously. One of you guys step up.
  • 80th Anniversary of the United Nations is approaching. Rotary has a permanent seat at the table. Unlike, defeating Polio, World peace is not guaranteed.
  • Debbie Zaft is building a raffle basket and needs stuff. Give her your good stuff, not your regifted candles.
  • Ray reminded us about the Veterans’ Program on November 14. Buy a ticket for you and one for a vet. Karma points included.
  • Giro Bello needs sponsorship help. Ring Ray. Ride bikes. Change lives.

Recognitions

  • Nicole Le Savko and her Rotary Hat Trick

Nicole Le Savko turned 50, bought a Tesla, and gave $100 to the club — basically the Rotary Hat Trick.

  • John spent time in Kauai celebrating his 30th anniversary and his 80th birthday. $100 to veterans scholarships. Mahalo!
  • Paul forgot his 44th anniversary, but remembered to donate $44. Smooth recovery, Paul.

Intermission…?

Taio Cruz’s “Hangover” played. Everyone just… stood there. Maybe it was ironic. Maybe it was literal. Either way, no dancing occurred. The music committee may need to pivot to Taylor Swift or the Hokey Pokey.

Guest Speakers: Feeding a Region

Shana Koehler from the Redwood Empire Food Bank

We welcomed Shana Koehler and Breanne Beseda from the Redwood Empire Food Bank, who reminded us just how hard they work to make sure nobody in our community goes hungry.

  • 300 monthly food distributions
  • 55,000–65,000 people served monthly
  • 10,000 volunteers annually
  • Every $1 = $3 worth of food

Breanne Beseda from the Redwood Empire Food Bank

Breanne showed a powerful video and pointed out the table of back-row troublemakers (they know who they are). And then she hit us with the big ask: Federal funding was cut by $5 million. That’s a lot of PB&J to make up for. They need our help — money, volunteers, food — preferably all three.

The video they shared can be found on our HERE.

Final Bell

Another Rotary Wednesday full of service, song, and the vague smell of beef and justice. Let’s keep doing good, dancing awkwardly, and remembering our anniversaries. See you next week — blue marble willing.

Note From The Board
