Re-creation of the Round Barn
Kenneth Moholt-Siebert
Eight years after the Fountaingrove Round Barn burned down in the Tubbs Fire, a local Sebastopol architect is rebuilding the historic landmark.
According to the Press Democrat, Ken Moholt-Siebert is constructing a near-replica of the iconic 16-sided barn on a hillside above his vineyard near Santa Rosa. He calls the project an “act of healing and love” for the community, which deeply missed the structure.
The new barn features fire-resistant materials and is progressing slowly, with a completion goal of next summer.
The effort aims to restore a cherished piece of Sonoma County’s lost heritage.

Rotaract Fund Raiser
If anyone would like to donate money to GRA (Global Rotaract Alumni Club) they can donate the money on the GOSC site and include a note that it is for GRA. This would help us tremendously to continue growing as a club and be able to conduct larger scale projects. Here is the donation link: Donate Now – Global Offsite Care
Opening The Meeting:
Welcome to the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa where we are doing good in Santa Rosa and around the world!
Curt Groninga led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, the Four/Five Way Test and this was his Reflection on “Humanitarianism.”
“Ever since rejoining Rotary, I’ve gained a greater sense of humanity and humanitarianism.” Here are four quotes:
“In every child who is born, under no matter what circumstances, and no matter what parents, the potentiality of the human race is born again.” James Agee
“Scientific and humanist approaches are not competitive but supportive, and both are ultimately necessary.” Robert C Wood
“Let us have but one end in view, the welfare of humanity; and let us put aside all selfishness in consideration of language, nationality, or religion.” John Comenius
“We are healthy only to the extent that our ideas are humane.” Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
Visiting Rotarians:
Edgar Nadar Flores
Visitors:
Lucia Caballo Hildalgo, Bronwyn Gunderson, and Malia Nichols. Malia has turned in an application to join us!

What do you get from a pampered cow? Spoiled milk!
Thank you for filling in for Michael Moore…we think.
International Report:
The Redding Club has delivered 1000 Tutu desks and bought extra books too!
ABC’s of Rotary:
President Julia found and read the part about us all going by first names in Rotary. As she said, “This is why I call Knoel Owen “Your Honor” in the courtroom but call him Knoel on the club level.
We Support Children:
President Julia was at a Sebastopol Club meeting, and they brag at their meetings about what their club does for children. “We don’t do that and we should! Just think of all the things we do for children: Giro Bello is the “Ride for Our Youth,” bell ringing for the Salvation Army, The Book of Why, supporting our local FFA kids, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Youth Exchange, Ryla, Ukraine, Rotaract, Interact…..We should proudly say we are here for our children, locally and around the world!”

Lucia Caballo Hidalgo on her Rotary Exchange Thus Far This School Year:
Lucia was born in Ponferrada, el Bierzo, Leon, a city of 62,900 inhabitants and lived there until she was five. From ages 5-9 she lived in Madrid, a city of 3.5 million people. Her favorite places in Madrid are Gran Via, Usera and Fuencarral. Her family then moved to Burgos, a town of 176,000 inhabitants, and she still lives there. She loves hip hop, the cello, and David Bowie. Foods from her hometown include blood sausage, tortilla de patata and gazpacho. They seem to be always eating in Spain. Lunch is 3 or 4 pm, sinner is 9 or 10 pm, with snacks they eat 5 times a day! Most don’t own a car (no wonder they don’t get fat eating all those meals!). The bus and train systems are excellent.
Her first meal in California was from In-N-Out Burger (pretty tasty!). She went to a Weird Al Jankovic concert. She plays her cello with the Santa Rosa High School Orchestra and the North Bay Honor Orchestra. In September she went to Big Trees State Park to see the Sequoias and Redwoods. She has never seen so many casinos anywhere like Nevada! She has been to Lake Tahoe and finds a reason to go to San Francisco every month. She went to Los Angeles and saw the walk of fame (had her picture taken with David
Bowie’s star). In December she went to New York City. She went with Craig and Elaine to Monterey. She has made a lot of friends, especially the other exchange students.
Questions:
Peter asked what she liked about San Francisco. Its walkability, architecture and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Paul asked about plans for the future. Go to college, probably in Madrid, and study music.
Sam asked about Basque food. Yes, they eat a lot!
Rick asked about comparing Spanish schools to California schools. In Spain there in more emphasis on tests and testing whereas at her current school there is more emphasis on assignments. School is more social in the United States and they offer more sports. Since arriving she is swimming.
Craig asked about her family. Her dad is an architect who wanted to be an artist. Her mom is an engineer specializing in forestry.
She loves music and music movies. She is a big fan of David Bowie and the Beatles. She was crushed when she found out that two of them were already dead.
Lucia’s Presentation:
Special Election
“NOTICE; The Rotary Club of Santa Rosa Foundation would like to announce the upcoming election of trustees that will
take place during the Foundation’s meeting on March 23, 2026. Members of the Club who have questions or may
be interested in being nominated to serve as a trustee on the Foundation’s board are encouraged to contact
Nona Lucas, Kris Anderson or Craig Meltzer.”
