DG Visit
Kristine Redko
District Governor 2025-2026
Kristine has been a Rotarian since 2007 when she was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Rancho Cotati in District 5130. Since then, she has served as President twice, Secretary, Vocational Chair, Club Service Chair, Youth Exchange Host Parent, District Public Image Chair, and she helped found a second Rotary Club during COVID – the Rotary Club of Sonoma Mountain Twilight.
Her claim to fame is that on July 30, 2010 – during her first Presidential term – she gave birth to her twins and led Rancho Cotati to Small Club of the Year for 2010-11. Roman and Katya are almost 15, and she considers them her favorite “Junior Rotarians.”

Rotaract Fund Raiser
If anyone would like to donate money to GRA (Global Rotaract Alumni Club) they can donate the money on the GOSC site and include a note that it is for GRA. This would help us tremendously to continue growing as a club and be able to conduct larger scale projects. Here is the donation link: Donate Now – Global Offsite Care
Opening The Meeting:
As per usual we heard the Black-Eyed Peas to open our meeting. We are “United for Good” in our community and the world, said President Julia Parranto.
Robby Fouts led us in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four/Five-Way Test. His Reflection was some quotes by Jonathan Swift and Robert Frost.
Visitors:
Major Marcos Mendez and Michael Tonjum. Both have turned in their applications for membership.
Sunshine Report:
Nothing new, thank goodness.
50/50 Drawing:
Ann Gospe ran the drawing today. The pot is now up to $56.00, and we have no clue on the number of marbles in the bag. Member-to-be Michael Tonjum had the right number, but he pulled a yellow marble. He put his $10.00 consolation prize right into the Polio Pail. Get that man his red badge!
Joke of the Week:
A man in the barber shop seemed so depressed, so the barber told him, “Cheer up. I know a guy who owed $5,000 he couldn’t pay. He drove his vehicle to the edge of a cliff, where he sat for an hour. A group of concerned citizens heard about his problem and passed a hat around. Relieved, the man pulled back for the cliff’s edge.”
“Incredible,” said the man. Who were these kind people?”
“The passengers on the bus.”
October Birthdays:
This month we celebrate: Kris Anderson, Dan Bornstein, Tavo Guillen, Ann Gospe and John Poremba.
The Paul Harris Rap:
Pretty cool! It just got posted a couple of weeks ago. Share it on your social media!
Paul Harris Fellow Awards:
Today Doug Landin gave out two new pins. Casey D’Angelo got his Plus Three Pin and Kris Anderson got her Plus Four Pin. Just helping Rotary do good in our world.
Are you president material? We think you are!
President Julia asked us all to consider being a president for our club. We are looking for 2027-2028 and 2028-2029. It is not rocket science to be a club president. You have a club and a board of directors that will support you. Running the meetings is not hard once you get over your (possible) stage fright. Your past presidents and the club treasurer will help you with your budget. If you have any interest, talk to President Julia or one of the many past presidents in our club. If you have served on the board of directors, you are eligible. If you were a president in another club, you are eligible. Past presidents can be president again. Small clubs, like the Russian River Club, all have been president at least one time. Think about it…
Announcements:
-
Keven Brown says Corrick’s is celebrating their 110 anniversary this Saturday, October 4th, night at the store. There will be cake and lots of music.
- Keven Brown says the Art Trails Preview Party is this Friday, October 3rd.
- Jeff Kolin wanted everyone to know about the article that was in The Press Democrat the other day. The article was about Doug Simons of the Santa Rosa Cycling Club and all the work he does for bicyclists and bike rides in our area and that we gave him a Paul Harris Award for his amazing work.
- Sam McMillan has all the meat that was ordered at the meat auction last week. Please see him to get your order!
- Debi Zaft would like to know if the club is interested in a Halloween Party this month. We will not have a meeting on October 29 because it is the 5th Wednesday of the month. So, let’s have a social!
Recognitions:
- Ted Wilmsen just became a great grandfather! Eleanor Eloise was born last week. Ted donated $100 for this special event.
Nicole Le and Ray Giampaoli on Completing the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim Hike
Nicole did the hike in May and Ray did it about two weeks later. Nicole and her friend did some training …Ray and his son; not so much.
On this epic Grand Canyon hike, you’ll leave from the North Kaibab Trail on the North Rim, (or the other way around) challenging your personal limits as you descend 14.3 miles and 6,000 feet to the bottom of the canyon before connecting with the Bright Angel Trail and climbing 4,500 feet and 9.6 miles back out again to the South Rim.
You are told to start early as it can take 9-14 hours to complete. Nicole and her friend started at 4:30 in the morning and ended about 5:30 in the afternoon. Ray and his son started at 6:30 in the morning and finished at 11:30pm. You want to start early so that you can avoid some of the heat in the canyon. Ray says he got to a point where he would walk for 45 minutes and then take a nap. Curious fact; the temperature changes 3 degrees for every 1000 feet of elevation. You can only do this hike between May 15 and October 15 due to weather and water. Both spoke of bringing electrolyte beverages to drink and salt tablets for the trip. Simple to eat protein bars and salty snacks were the fuels to get them through the hike. Nicole brought along a “Shade Umbrella” that really made a difference. She also had a “shade tracker” application on her phone. It was 55 degrees when she started, and the temperature ranged 105- 110 for her hike. Ray’s day had a temperature range of 115 – 120 degrees.
They saw some wild animals along the way. Most people who do this hike will break it up into two days and spend the night at the Phantom Ranch, or other campgrounds, along the canyon on the Colorado River.
